The Valley Stage Music Festival

The seventh annual Valley Stage Music Festival took place in the Huntington Valley and again was fortunate to have a stellar Summer Day. The great music and food were supplemented by vendors and sponsors with green/ sustainability themes. Once again in 2013 , we will be looking to maintain a focus on green organizations and their efforts while presenting some great music in a beautiful setting for music, food and family fun. We’re repeating last year’s effort by powering the stage with a renewable energy source provided by Green Mountain Power.

Once again, Katie Trautz will open and close this year’s Festival with traditional Appalachian fiddle tunes. After hearing her perform these melodies previously, it felt like the perfect ritual to welcome in the day and bid the evening adieu. 

Katie is a native Vermont Fiddler who has toured across the country sharing traditional music and original folk songs.  She has released three albums in the past three years, under different titles.  She plays guitar and banjo as well and crosses genres in her numerous ensembles.

We’ll be kicking off this year’s concert at 1:00 p.m. with an upbeat performance by one of Vermont’s premier bluegrass bands The Modern Grass Quintet. Their playing moved VPR’s Robert Resnik to exclaim “MGQ create a natural swing which makes them stand out among many pickers.  Great music, and it'll make you want to jump!' 

At 2:45 the Dupont Bros. Band performs. Reunited after years of geographical separation by a fortified collaboration in music, Sam and Zack Dupont are best friends, siblings and now co-conspirators in a shared passion that runs deep in their family.  Lush finger-style guitar work is complimented by elegant prose and a vocal blend that could only be matched by blood relation.
 
We are very pleased to have the opportunity to showcase two of the premier bands who are making their marks nationally and were fortunately both available for this year’s festival.  The Stray Birds from Lancaster, PA appear on our stage at 4:45 pm.  The perfect blend of these three voices raised in harmony above the raw resonance of wood and strings will confirm that you are witnessing something special.  It is a sound drawn from the richness of American folk music traditions, spun with a stirring subtlety and grace. From bustling street corners to silent halls, their performances speak to an uncompromising reverence for songs.  This will be their only appearance in Northern Vt this summer.

Around 7:00 p.m. Joy Kills Sorrow brings together an eclectic mix of musicians who each have classical and/or jazz conservatory training, though collectively, they ambitiously utilize their years of study to hone a new acoustic territory yet discovered by many of today’s top artists. It’s an amalgamation of lamenting music of the heartland, singular stories of heartache and laughter….five musicians who grew up listening to indie-rock, jazz and pop music that churn out impressive tunes with an incredibly contemporary sensibility.
This year's August 10th event promises to be an exciting afternoon/evening of four acts and lots of food and fun for the whole family. Oh yea, and great silent auction. The Valley Stage is proud to be sponsored by Huntington Valley Arts, a not for profit organization.
