Robbie Fulks

Robbie Fulks performed at The Valley Stage Festival in 2010

Robbie Fulks is one of the premier performers of what some are calling Alternative Country. Ironically, his music hearkens back to a more traditional country sound than anything currently coming out of the tightly-controlled Nashville scene. He spins tales that touch on myriad aspects of life through vibrant imagery, a piercing observation of human nature, and wry wit. Fulks is something of a trickster in his constant attempts to go against expectations.

"Mr. Fulks is more than a songwriter. He's a gifted guitarist also …… he’s one part artful country, one part artful send up of country and one part a little of everything else."
-- NY TIMES

"Walking to the beat of a different drum, singer-songwriter Robbie Fulks has carved a path between punk iconoclasm and country traditionalism, the Sundowners and Steve Albini, Bloodshot and Geffen, Chicago and Nashville."
-- JOURNAL OF COUNTRY MUSIC

"Robbie presents a swift mix of pathos and wit, where every lyrical and vocal nuance is essential to the bigger picture. He fluctuates between soberly introspective and humorously irreverent. Like all great country songwriters, Fulks’s trademark is a manipulation of language: by rearranging the meanings of simple phrases, cracking a whiplash of wordplay, and carefully arranging rhymes within rhymes, he effectively demonstrates that no other conceivable structure would serve the song so well."

Though virtually unknown in these parts, Fulks and his band featuring Grant Tye on guitar will not be soon forgotten!
